Club Championships 2010

Wednesday 8th September, Eton Dorney Rowing Lake, Berkshire. 24 members of BTS arrived to take part in the 2010 version of our own club championships, over the sprint distance of 750m Swim, 6 lap 20km bike and 2 lap 5km run.

Making up a quarter of all the competitors, people were all there for various reasons. Some to just take part and have a good evening out with friends, and a few harbouring quiet desires to take a victory, checking up and down the list of colleagues taking part to figure out who they might be able to beat.

With a few of the club's 'big guns' not racing, the men's competition was arguably up for grabs........that was until Sam Gardner turned up with 5 minutes to go!

He duly went on to win not just the BTS competition, but the whole evening, with only one other competitor on the night going under an hour. However, this was not before young Philip Mason lead the Xterra pro (and everyone else) out of the swim, with a frankly fantastic 10m47s for 750m. Sam was followed home some 5 minutes later by David Lightbourne whose strong bike set up his comfortable position as second BTS'er to cross the line. Jo Middleton ran down a minute deficit after the bike to take 3rd.

In the women's competition, Nicky Way left the water with nearly 2 minutes lead on 2nd place Sarah Bugler, with Julia Hodkinson leaving T1 a further 30 seconds down. Julia chased down both of those in front to lead out of T2, but Nicky didn't give up and managed to catch and pass Julia once again to win by around 90 seconds. This left Sarah in a foot race for 3rd with Lynda Hart, after leaving T2 together. Lynda won out over the 5km run, to take the final BTS podium spot.
