Pembroke Race Report
Invited by former member Jim Buck to take part in his new club`s local event 5 intrepid B.T.S. competitors plus 2 support team members set out on a Welsh expedition. Clutching passports and enough money for the toll bridge, (curiously we only had to pay to go IN to Wales (THAT IS BECAUSE VISITORS SHOULD PAY FOR THE PRIVILAGE - WEB ED))! we ventured through the friday evening, westbound exodus and arrived at Jim`s palatial abode in time for delicious Lasagne and a few beers (carbloading of course).

Tom`s swim times were disappointing despite all the hard training he was putting in in the pool. |

The next day dawned just right for the event if a little cool for the support team who proved invaluable later in the day fetching stuff from car to transition for a certain forgetful competitor and providing refreshment and encouragement for tiring athletes.
The middle distance race started at 11.30, dictated by the tide, and consisted of a 2 x 1km swim around the harbour with a 100m run between laps, 3x a hilly 26km bike course and 2x10km run around the breakwater. The sprint race was a 750m lap of the harbour, once round the bike course and a 5km run around the inner breakwater.
All the B.T.S competitors had good races but a special mention goes to Chris for a characteristically fast bike ride and huge effort on the run to finish in overall 4th place in the middle distance race. Tom is benefiting from concentrating on shorter distances finishing in 12th place in the sprint with Robin the Bruce continuing to build on his strong cycling in 18th. Erica fought off the many jellyfish to a routine (for her), stunning swim leg and kept it going to stay ahead of Jim at the line. I plodded on and eventually finished the middle distance, giving great cause for celebration, myself and Chris being found at the bar, pints in hand, a few minutes after I had finished. The post event party continued back at the Mansion with the Shielas throwing shrimps and snags on the barby while Bruce and the boys relaxed in the pool, yep a 10m heated swimming pool!
The expedition continued the next beautiful, blue sky, sunny day with a beach picnic followed by a stunning cycle to the far western tip of Wales looking out to Ramsey island and then back for more Buck five star treatment and pooltastic messing about.
Huge thanks to Jim Nina and the girls for their wonderful hospitality, they have been warned that the success of the weekend could lead to a regular B.T.S outing. Well done to all the competitors and thanks again to Glynys and Renee for their support.
