W'End Roundup 11th/12th July
What a fantastic weekend for BTS. Two brilliant IronMan performances -
Lee Charles at Roth, coming in at 9hrs.38, and racing alongside Chrissie Wellington. Read more below,
Rob Holden in Zurich finishing his first IM in 11hrs.36.
Chris Harris went even longer and further completing the 3-peaks challenge in 19hrs50 and being part of the winning team.
Going shorter and faster our men's Time Trial team of Chris, Michael and Luke came second at Dorney on Sunday, with honourable mentions for 4 other Team Time Trial teams, (mostly) resplendent in BTS kit. And even more impressively BTS Ladies and Triple 8's got FIRST AND SECOND in the ladies' relay race - that was Julia, Holly, Ev, Janice, Beth and Sharon. (A couple of ringers, but who's counting??) Backed up by the Ladies Novices.
Just before her Relay duties, Julia also went to Hillingdon and managed to cling on to a lead and win the ladies super-vets series prize. Alongside Julia, Tom Korf, who is half BTS, won the overall men's race on the day.
Apologies if we missed anyone. Let us know on the forum if you were racing. All results are below, but check out Lee's adventures at Roth first.
"The race was fantastic, with over 150,000 spectators there was an incredible atmosphere. All eyes seemed to be on Chrissie Wellington and her world record attempt, so I slipped into transition without too much attention!! My heart was in my mouth for the start of the swim and with a swarm of spectators watching from the bridge we were off! With the start set into groups of 250 competitors the swim went pretty smoothly without too much drama, just trying to calm down and prepare for what lay ahead. With a quick change in transition it was off on the bike and this is where Roth comes into it's own! It is a rolling bike course with nothing too lumpy but when you arrive a the Solarer Berg a 1000m climb the atmosphere was just incredible. With only enough room to get one bike up the hill due to all the spectators, the hair on the back of your neck just stands on end, it was hard not too feel a little emotional! Anyway, I tried to calm down and concentrate on eating plenty and keeping the fluids going, however their are only so many peanut bars a man can stomach. The run is flat with long lonely stretches along the canal but again is really well supported in the local towns. As with any Ironman, this is when the pain begins and I think the last 10 miles is the hardest thing I have ever endured. To come into the finishing shoot was was incredible and I was so pleased to finish in 9hrs 38mins 18 secs. Another plus about Roth......They only have beer at the finishing tents"
